Frequently Asked Questions about Coaching

The number one key to freedom / life fulfillment is to look at my frustrations not as problems, but as opportunities to go beyond just being mediocre in life, but to really excel, and to realize that now is the time to make a change, not tomorrow.
-
Iris Grimm

“We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong.
The amount of work is the same.”
-Don Juan

"Life is like riding a bike. It is impossible to maintain your balance while standing still."
- Linda Brakeall

If you feel the need to be constantly busy and feel guilty if you're not currently occupied, then you've never given yourself permission to be at peace.
– Alan Weiss

Case Study: Building a sustainable practice while maintaining a sense of work-life balance

The Client: Dr. A, a radiologist in private practice. She has been proactive in building her practice but she was still behind her competition when it comes to patient numbers.

She also has 2 young children and she felt bad when she worked late in the night and didn’t spend as much time with the children as she wanted.

The issue: She didn’t feel that her patient volume was growing fast enough and she was dissatisfied with balancing her practice with her private life. This was causing her much stress.

The process

We spent A’s first coaching sessions carefully dissecting her situation. She clarified what a successful and full practice would look like and feel like to her and she also articulated what work-life balance meant to her.

She realized how much time she wanted to spend in her children’s lives but she also realized how determined, focused and efficient she had to work in her practice so that she could afford the life she envisioned for herself, husband and children. I always say “every prize has its price” and so we have to get clear what we want and what we are willing to give up / or do more in order to get what we want.

For Dr. A it was clear that she needed to create more space in her life. Just to mention a few actions that she took: She evaluated the networking events she regularly attended and how productive they were, she assessed the voluntary obligations she took on over the years, she looked at her housework responsibilities and how she could simplify them. Once she freed herself from energy drainers and unproductive responsibilities, she automatically had more time for her family and she felt more enthused about building her practice.

Coaching Dr. A. was largely about giving her space to articulate what she needed to subtract and add to her life to claim her success and work-life balance. The focus of our work became simplifying her life and then developing a marketing routine that brought her the number of patients she needed to feel successful and profitable.

The Outcome

Dr. A. is steadily building her practice. She developed a marketing routine that she constantly adjusts and evaluates.

She is able to say “no” to obligations and people who are not a fit to the focus she pursues.

As a result she is also spending more time with her children. She doesn’t feel like she has to catch up with her competition anymore but she now has her own personal definition of success that includes a fulfilling personal life.
