“When we focus on clarifying what is being observed, felt, and needed rather than on diagnosing and judging, we discover the depth of our own compassion.”

Frequently Asked Questions about the Balanced Physician Program
Resources for Physician Success

Who benefits from participating in the Balanced Physician program?

Our clients are physicians from all specialties, practicing alone or as part of a group, physician executives and leaders, young physicians who just get started in their career, and seasoned professionals ready to move into a more productive and rewarding lifestyle.

We also work with practice managers and entire medical teams.

What is the Balanced Physician program and what does it include?

The Balanced Physician Program is a coaching program designed to support health care professionals to develop a fulfilling and financially rewarding medical practice without sacrificing their personal life. The goal is to assist clients to make changes that they couldn't or wouldn't do on their own as quickly and as successfully. The program is fast paced, action-oriented, practical, and focuses on the non-medical skills of the participants.

What are the benefits of a coaching program?

The personal benefits of coaching are as wide-ranging as the individuals involved. Numerous clients report that coaching positively impacted their careers as well as their lives by helping them to:

  • Optimize their leadership style
  • Build and improve interpersonal relationship skills
  • Contribute more effectively to the team and the practice
  • Improve communication skills
  • Promote and encourage the development of self-management skills
  • Reduce tension and stress
  • Achieve clarity and focus around life purpose, vision and choice
  • Drive significant personal changes
  • Align priorities and decisions with values
  • Develop courage to take action and follow through
  • Gain a sense of balance and personal fulfillment
  • Enhance performance through personal and professional satisfaction

How does coaching work?

In general, coaching is conducted over the telephone in scheduled weekly sessions held two to three times a month. For busy physicians and executives this cuts down on travel time, allowing clients to call in from anywhere in the country. In addition, clients always have unlimited e-mail access to the coach. In-person meetings can also be arranged to physicians and executives in the Atlanta area.

What is the difference between coaching and consulting?

Both consulting and coaching aim to support organizational and personal changes. Traditional consulting offers solutions and advice based on the situation at hand. Coaching enables the person being coached to find their own answers. The coach is an expert in the domains of conversation, communication, interpersonal skills and self-management skills, whereas a consultant is an expert in a particular subject or field.

Coaching is based on relationships while consulting is informational. Consultants gather and analyze data in order to write reports and make recommendations for specific problems. Coaches are forward-looking and they work with individuals before, during and after change. Coaching is holistic in its approach, enveloping all facets of life.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Both coaching and therapy make requests of the client to be introspective about who they are, their relationships and their world. However, therapy examines the roots of the way of being and analyzes clients' histories in an effort to heal and uncover.

Contrary, coaching works in the realm of creating through discovery. Therapy asks "Why?". Coaching asks "What do you want?" "Who will you be?" "How will your life be different and what has to happen for you to get there?". Coaching is action- and solution-oriented with a concentration in forward motion.

Is the coaching relationship confidential?

Absolutely. There are no exceptions, even when the company is paying the coaching bill.

How quickly can I expect results?

Obviously, this depends on how much effort and time you put into the program and yourself. That said, virtually all participants experience tangible results within the first couple of months in the form of more focus, more available time for self, more energy, greater motivation, and a sense of control.

What will the program cost?

We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. You and your situation are unique, so together we will custom-design a program that fits your needs, your time schedule, your values, and your goals.

The coaching program includes:

  • An initial consultation to prioritize your topics and challenges
  • Assessments to get a snapshot of your situation
  • A 2-hour strategic session to develop an action plan
  • Unlimited access for short telephone conversations and emails.

Together we'll determine the mix of consulting and coaching which will best benefit you (see coaching versus consulting about this hybrid approach).

For phone-based programs investments range between $600 - $1200 per month.
For in-person programs investments range between $700 - $1400 per month.

Group and team coaching programs:
Price is determined by the size of the group and format of the program. Please call to inquire.

How much direct experience must the coach have in my industry or situation?

A coach must not have direct experience at all. This is sometimes even more helpful since the coach doesn't bring any of his / her own bias. Coaches are skilled in the coaching process and are experts in communication and bringing out the best in people.

I have an overwhelming practice and life and I just don't have any time to spare. Any suggestions?

Yes, sometimes you have to give first before you receive. If you continue living your life as you have in the past you will get the same results in the future.

If you are tired of feeling overwhelmed, stressed, out of control, then this program might be the best investment you will ever make.

How can I start?

Call our office at 770-428-2334 or email and lets schedule a preliminary consultation (free of charge for you) which will last approximately 30-45 minutes.

Our phone conversation will give you an idea of the program scope and will help us understand your specific challenges. Then it is up to you to decide how this program can benefit you.
