The Balanced Physician Program is for Physicians and their Staff.
Physicians who are successful business (practice) owners and effective leaders know that maximizing their performance and enjoying their work depends on continually fine-tuning and advancing their level of skills.
Healthcare is a field that is dependent on trusting relationships. One of the most common roadblocks to good patient care and peak team performance is a lack of skills dealing with people. There are two skill sets involved:
- interpersonal skills and
- self-management skills.
The Balanced Physician Program - Addressing the Symptoms:
Here are a few of the most common symptoms caused by inadequate skills when dealing with situations. We encourage you to imagine what a difference it would make when tools for successfully addressing these symptoms are yours!
Lack of Stress Control
- You feel like you're on a stress rollercoaster, and there is no way to get off. Most days are filled with overwhelm, employee turmoil, rude or demanding patients, cash-flow problems, missed family events or appointments (again), volunteer projects (as if you had the time), personal health concerns (no wonder) ... you don't even know where your head is, and you are running on automatic pilot.
- "No" is a word you have such difficulty saying to other people, and so you take on more projects, more volunteer work and more work.
- The expensive lifestyle is taking its toll, and you feel it deep inside.
» The Result: You are fueled by adrenaline. Life, not to mention quality of life, is passing you by. You are making it through the day (barely) and you (over)react to everything. People are calling you "Dr. House"!
| Dr. S. a wife, mother and full-time physician, felt so overwhelmed from all of her responsibilities. Her husband suggested her to switch to a part time position but she refused since she truly enjoyed her profession. Instead she signed up with the Balanced Physician Program.
In a 9-month work relationship, Dr. S. had many revelations about her work habits and beliefs.
Little by little she learned to let go of her controlling behavior and cut her workload / responsibilities by 1/3rd through delegation. We worked on stress control, people empowerment techniques, and setting stronger boundaries.
Dr. S. knows now how to respond to stress effectively. Her family has been noticing that she is more relaxed and her "usual anger bursts" disappeared. She also said that due to her increased effectiveness she enjoys her profession more than ever before.

Missing Priorities and Efficiency Skills
- You put so much time and energy into your practice and medical career there is but little left for your personal life.
- You advocate healthy eating and exercise to your patients, but you don't have time for any of that.
- Self-care - what is that again?
- You never feel caught up, there is always more to do.
» The Result: You are busy all the time - doing, doing, doing; you don't feel fulfilled at the end of the day, and you feel drained empty.
Insufficient People Skills
- You entered the healthcare field because you truly care for your patients, and you want to make a difference in people's lives. But there are so many patients who demand so much from you, you just don't know how to deal with them.
- Patients threaten to sue you, complain about you, or express discontent over the way your staff treated them even though you have treated them the best way possible given your workload.
- Staff turnover is unacceptably high in your practice.
» The Result: You spend way too much time on putting out fires; your employee expenses are on an all-time high and you wonder if it is worth staying in the medical field. Maybe you should sell real estate or find a "secure job" as an employee somewhere.
Poor Communication
- You avoid conflict at all costs.
- Certain team members just don't get along.
- You just can't get through to some people.
- Disagreements with your spouse are escalating since you have been neglecting your responsibilities at home.
» The Result: When we don't know how to connect with people who are different than we are, or think differently than we do, communication stops; strong emotions take over, and the relationship gets hijacked and often destroyed.
If you are dealing with any of the above mentioned symptoms,
the Balanced Physician program can help!
The program is most successful for individuals who:
- Understand that being a successful, efficient physician doesn't require only medical skills but also interpersonal skills and self-management skills.
- Are ready and willing to control the stress around them and to redesign their lives based on healthier and more productive beliefs and behavior.
- Are open to make improvements and to receive outside feedback.
- Realize that being a physician is a leadership position and effective leaders require a clear understanding of their own personality and the ability to communicate with all types of people.
- Are open to discover how the people skills of the physician effects the performance of EVERY staff member in the practice and understand that upgrading these skills is a leverage point for improving morale and performance.
We won't be successful in working with individuals who:
- Blame situations and problems on outside circumstances and other people
- Are not willing to face the truth and think outside of their clinical or authoritarian box
- Are not committed to empowering their people to reach their potential.
